The Tool is a recommendation engine that takes the information you provide about your film and processes it through our research database to provide you with a step-by-step strategy for a specific film project. It aims to cut down the amount of research you need to do to find the most appropriate channels to promote and distribute your film, which means more time for you to spend on making films.
You can launch a Tool query at any stage of the life of your film. Our questionnaire is broken into four parts: About you, What do you want, About your film and About promo dist
You will be asked a number of detailed questions in each part, all of which help to tailor your results. The first part focuses on questions about you as a person, your background and identity.
The second part of the questionnaire allows you to choose whether your results include advice on promoting your film, distributing your film or both, depending on your circumstances
The third step is about your film itself. Here you are asked to give specific details about generic influences, themes and issues that your film deals with. This information allows the Tool to tell you where there are niche festivals, small distributors, or a social network that closely match your film but that you may not have heard about.
You can select the genre your film falls into by clicking on the tag, or you can use the search box in the top left corner.
The final step of the questionnaire goes into detail about your promotion and distribution efforts to date.
The information you enter into the final step allows the Tool to compare your data with the requirements of a huge number of online and offline channels. For example, if you have already premiered your film online you won't be directed to submit your film to film festivals that have strict premiere requirements.
Once you have completed the questionnaire, your results overview will be displayed.
When you click on the Channels box, you will see the list generated by the Tool of recommended film festivals, social networks, blogs and distributors that match your film’s content, or meet your plans for promotion and distribution.
Other boxes contain our advice on how to best use the channels that are recommended for you and your film. By clicking on the heading inside the box, you will be able to view this advice.
You are able to return to your view your results for your project whenever you login. You can also re-enter any details into the questionnaire that have changed since you have started to have successes with your film, in order to ensure your strategy is kept relevant and that you keep reaching out to the best audience for your film.
The Tool is currently in development - forgive us if you find a bug, and let us know! We need your feedback to make it better for you. When you register on FilmTiki, you have free access to the Tool.
