The company was founded in 1997 by Wulf Sörgel and Torsten Frehse and is based in Berlin. Their website is in German.

They accept short films, features, film series and visual art from a range of genres, but only those they feel fit their personal profile. Their particular interests include European cinema, socially critical films, Eastern European films, Young German cinema, alternative life worlds, films by women and African cinema. Films may be submitted in 16mm, 35mm and Beta formats. All distribution rights are surrendered to the company on signing, generally for at least the cinema and DVD media, but usually for all media.

Neue Visionen’s distribution channels include theatres, free-to-air TV and DVD rental stores, as well as online DVD sales.

The company attends the Berlin Film Festival, Cannes, and the Venedig Film Festival.
