As you may have noticed we’re working on an upgrade of our website www.FilmTiki.com. In the past few months we’ve learned that it’s still hard for filmmakers to reach their audience, although the situation has improved. So we decided to make FilmTiki a community platform where filmmakers and filmlovers can find and connect each other.

We have been asking ourselves how to reach the people who'd love to support our project. Where are they? What kind of interests could they have and how do we get them to spend money on our venture? Two weeks from now, we will start our engines and hit the road to Eastern Europe. Money is one of our fuels. Money means gas, acommodation, insurance, technical supplies and vans. All projects need money to get started. We are just one of them. So the question is: What makes us special?

A filmmaker is always looking for a good story to tell. Some of the best stories just happen in daily life and even fictional stories are based on the storyteller’s various life experiences. These experiences are kind of an “idea pool”, which a filmmaker can work with and use to tell a good story in his movie. However, what is a filmmaker looking for? Is it a strained relationship between a couple, a quirk of a person or just a simple conflict?

VOD and movie search engine Austrian video-on-demand start-up Flimmit presented a new feature on their website: a movie search engine that combines information to a movie from different platforms like Amazon, IMDb, Wikipedia or YouTube. The engine uses Semantic Entity Detection to match all gathered data from the web and groups it on the website. So the users get all the information (links to DVD-retailers, Streams, Posters, Synopsis etc.) they need with one single search query.
