Online services such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are very popular these days and they are really huge even in traditional media because they influence many peoples everyday life. Normally we here at FilmTiki blog about how these services can help filmmakers to get their movies seen, but a more recent trend brings your favourite Social Media service to the movies now.

We have been in Berlin since late Thursday night (lots of snow delayed all the flights coming in), and it has been a cold but awesome festival so far. On Friday we held our workshop at HomeBase, which was really good. Everybody got lots out of it. Thanks again to the HomeBase team for the brilliant location. Like every year, it is great to catch up with old friends and make new friends.

For those looking for a way to fund current or future film projects I have found some very interesting competitions. Many of them award the winner(s) with cash prizes, while others offer a range of support and/or resources. To begin with, the Smalls Showcase and Awards 2009 is currently accepting entries. They have two simple rules: your film must be under 10 minutes and demonstrate your filming skills.

I have been suspecting this. Look at this picture - a typical queue in front of the Berlinale Ticket counter: queue at the Berlinale counter People are waiting for hours; they even camp there a couple of hours or more before the ticket counter opens.

Yesterday Matthew and I managed to catch two films, which is almost a miracle at this festival. Tickets are very limited, as is time, and luckily we were keen enough to get up early to get our tickets for Monday on Sunday morning. We caught the first screening ever of the still unfinished The Shock Doctrine, directed by Mat Whitecross and Michael Winterbottom. They were editing until the night before, there are no credits yet and as far as I understood in the Q&A afterwards they are still polishing it off.

Sally Potter's new film "Rage" will have its premiere at the Berlinale this Sunday. I wasn't actually planning to see it until I stumbled across Sally Potter's blog. What she said in her latest post intrigued me: I suspect RAGE may be seen as a film for lean times. It’s certainly ‘no waste’ filmmaking: low-budget and definitely not an extravagant spectacle.
