Social Media at the Movies - part 2
After my initial post about Social Media at the movies a few weeks ago, I found some more examples of films that bring Social Media services to the (big) screen. So, here they are: Twittermentary As I predicted, it didn't take long to have the first movie about Twitter. It's called Twittamentary and
is a documentary about the effects of Twitter, directed by Singaporean filmmaker Tan Siok Siok and crowd sourced by Twitterers worldwide.
The movie aims to combine the experiences of Twitter users around the world, answering the following question: what is the most interesting thing that happened to you because of Twitter? People can contribute to the project by sharing texts and video, they can donate to this participatory film experiment and of course they can spread the word via Twitter. Life 2.0 Do you remember Second Life, virtual world phenomenom from 2003? It appears to finally find its way into the life of ordinary people, by being portrayed in an upcoming movie project called Life 2.0. Here's what Cinematical thinks about it:
Life 2.0, a new documentary by Jason Spingarn-Koff, finds a human story within the world of Second Life, by focusing his attention on the experiences of four of its users. (...) By putting a human face on the participants, Spingarn-Koff is able to help us understand the society of Second Life, while creating an incredibly compelling human drama.
Here's the trailer:

Because video dating/chatting platform Chatroulette went online only a few months ago, in November 2009 and there is already a movie about it. Well it's a short movie and it's more a bit of an user experiment, but you really get an insight on how the service works. I'm pretty sure there will also be a long form version of Chatroulette - the movie soon :-)
